2008 Masterpieces Baseball Case Break Recap
by Jeff on Nov.27, 2009, under MLB, Random Thoughts
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, I got to spend mine busting and sorting a 2008 masterpieces baseball 16 box case with my father and brother. I’m not going to go into a huge product review because I have already done that in the past, you can read that here if you are so inclined.
Over the 16 boxes I didn’t get shorted any hits to my surprise and I’m pretty sure I received all of the bordered cards I was suppose to, which was a pleasant surprise. The only noteable parallel card is this nice looking Frank Thomas that is numbered 5/5. Before you ask like the 20 other people who have through YouTube and Blowout forums, I’ve decided I’m going to eBay all of the numbered parallels I have.

Here is a list of the 16 jersey cards I got, plus the case hit YSL memorabilia card.
Jerseys:
Carlos Zambrano
Carlton Fisk
Roy Oswalt
Mark Teixeira
Tom Glavine
Andruw Jones
Kevin Youkilis
Chris Carpenter
Vladimir Guerrero
Garrett Atkins
Travis Hafner
Randy Johnson
Felix Hernandez
Jose Reyes (x2)
YSL Jorge Posada

Now the autographs:
Autos:
Edwin Encarnacion (x2)
Paul Konerko
Bill Hall
Brandon Phillips (x2)
Geoff Jenkins
Gavine Floyd (x2)
Matt Kemp (x2)
Max Scherzer (Redemption but is in stock)

Jersey Autos:
Jeff Francour
Chad Billingsley ![]()
Kevin Youkilis (Redemption but it is in stock!)

So far so good, really happy with the Billingsley and Youkilis jersey autos. I could have done without some of the doubles but what can ya do? But, the best part is the case hit. There is nothing more awesome feeling then pulling a case hit of the player you collect…

Dang, it seems like a rough case. No missing hits but also not any big name autographs or printing plates, which always help.
Hope the Thomas pulls in some good money.

Guess it depends how you look at it Mario, Papelbon to me is like Canseco is for you
and Billingsley/Youkilis are pretty big names. Considering the price I was pleased and I finally finished my base set hah. Only took me like..22 boxes to get the short printed base I needed, kinda absurd.
No Ripken/Jeter type auto was a let down but for the price I won’t complain. This stuff isn’t much more expensive then a blaster now.
Hoping the Thomas does well too, I’ve got quite a few of these numbered cards I’m going to recoup some cash with.

Damn, had no idea on Papelbon.
I will keep my eye open for his cards and if I pull something nice of his will send it your way.

Appreciate it
But yea, I’ve got quite a few Papelbon autos, I’ve never really showed my cards off of his that I have. I already had the masterpieces jersey auto of him so that patch goes nicely with it.

That’s the nicest Papelbon card we’ve ever seen. Cool.

Cool break Jeff! Even though no jeter/ripken/griffey names, there are very quality names on that list: Kemp, Konerko, Phillips, Papelbon, Billingsly, and Youk

You are going to ebay all the numbered parallels? Surely we can work something out. Save you all the paypal and ebay fees as well as having to ship everything to a ton of different locations.

The Konerko is a very nice auto. He doesn’t show up in a lot of products. The doubles on the autos would have pissed me off.
